Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Hmm bring back memories...even though I haven't watch the show until a month ago.
During Form 1, the first few months where I hung around Khei Lai and Joey after Chinese Society's Mesyuarat Agung, both of them kept talking about animes and mangas and I DON'T UNDERSTAND A THING.

That time there's a "no buying comics" policy. Besides, my primary school friends watch Taiwan's drama instead of anime. 《终极三国》、《微笑pasta》 、《放羊的星星》, idols such as 飞轮海 5566 黑社会美眉…where my knowledge about these are very limited cause I only watched some of it.
But I remember 《放羊的星星》 is quite good tho. But seeing that my opinion had changed throughout the years I probably think "meh it's just another romance between a cute and optimistic girl and a young and rich CEO".

I don't always read or watch romance but I either love it or disapproves it. Nothing in between.
Hmm some things would be best be left in memories.

Back to the original topic.
Yup Khei Lai and Joey kept talking about seven sins and alchemy and I just "whaaaat".
Joey even drawn a big picture of 7 sins (Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Pride, Greed, Sloth and Wrath) together saying that picture is her masterpiece.
That's  DAMN COOL cause the only thing I can draw is a stick man (Yeah~)
But I can't find that picture on her devianart. Ehhh you didn't post it on devianart??

Oh and she said that's a guy who's useless whenever there's water.
And a sparkling muscle man.  (It's PASSED DOWN THE ARMSTRONG FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS hahaha)
No. It's not Edward Cullen. He's not even a man he's a vampire.

I'd found the FMA dvd in Popular, but seeing the 64 episodes and numbers on the price tag....*slowly walks away*

*watch K-ON! instead* cause it has lesser episodes and...oh girl's school! With music! and tea!
And K-ON! becomes the first anime I've ever watched.

"Alchemy: the science of understanding the structure of matter, breaking it down, then reconstructing it as something else.
It can even make gold from lead. But alchemy is a science so it must follow the natural laws: to create, something of equal value must be lost. This is the principal of equivalent exchange.
But I learned that night that some things cannot be measured on a simple scale.
My brother and I knew the laws of science, of equivalent exchange.
The game required sacrifice, that something had to be taken from us, but we thought there was nothing more we could loose....We were wrong."
——Edward Elric

The story starts with two brothers traveling around, finding ways to get back their bodies, which they lost while performing human transmutation to get back their deceased mother.

"We just want to see our mother's smile again."

Sad story, huh?
That's just the beginning.

After that they found the Shou Tucker, a bio-alchemist who's researching on chimeras that can perform human's speech, wishing him could give them some info that can restore their bodies.
But they found the result of his research that earned him the "State Alchemist" pocket watch, a chimera who talks, was actually his wife fussed with a monster.
The first and only sentence it said, "I want to die."

To avoid government from taking back his State Alchemist certification, Shou Tucker produced another chimera to show that his research isn't just a waste of time.
See this cute little girl? And her big dog who looks so fluffy you wanna hug it.
He fussed them together.

This is cruel.
Plainly. Cruel.

At last the chimera and her father was killed by Scar, a Ishvalan who goes around killing State Alchemist for revenge of race.

What is this.
WHAT IS THIS STORY I may have step into an abyss what What WHYYY

Talking about Ishvalan, let's read some Ametris geography.
[click the picture to enlarge]

Ishval locates in the southeastern area of Amestris, a religious nation with rich culture.
Ishavalans are born with silver hair and white eyes, and often need to bear with discrimination of their race by Amestris population, people with pale skin due to difference of culture.

Seems familiar, right?
Ishval mirrors the tragic situation of some certain races of our own world.

The Ishvalan Civil War that lasted for 7 years started from the murdering of an Isvalan girl by a soldier.

Sometime during the war, it's not even considered as a war anymore when the Fuhrer orders State Alchemist to fight in front line and kill every Ishvalan.
This somehow makes me thought of the holocaust.

Scar, a survivor of the war, attemped to revenge his family and race by killing State Alchemist.

At last he changed his aim. Instead of killing Amestrians he decided save the remaining Ishvalans and their culture.

Changing people's opinions are never easy, but it's worth a try.

The first time I saw Ametris's map I wondered why is the county a circle. Why on earth can you find a country with this shape?!!
And I'm not wrong for wondering Ametris is formed few hundred years ago from a small nation to a country this big by attacking other nations around it.

And guess what?
The whole country is made for a transmutation circle as big as the country by "the father"to make an ultimate Philosopher's Stone.

And Hughes died because he figured out the plans of their government.

 *brb sobbing in the corner*

Speaking of Hughes, I love his friendship with Roy.

They met in the military school, where Hughes is Roy's senior.
Bromance ehehehe

Both of them fought in the Ishvalan Civil War. Hughes happily waved around his love letter from his fiance in front of Roy, saying the letters are the only things keeping him moving forward in this war. Hahaha such a dork~~♥

While Roy was remorse for killing all those innocent Ishvalans, Maes Hughes on the other hand seems cold blooded while he said he will fight (murder, you mean) until the war ends.
Because he don't want to die and he wants to see his loves one.

A selfish, but real and rational desire. And that's what kept him fighting.

"I will survive the war. And when I return home, I will swallow every terrible things I've done here, and I will smile when I'm with her."

And he got killed, leaving his wife and only daughter behind.
So long for his happy ending.
*sobs*

Colonel Roy Mustang. The man who wanted to change the country.
One of my favourite character of all times.

Those guys are so loyal to him every moment about his and his team are my favourites~~ ( •̀ ω •́ )y
He describe his subordinates as chess pieces, and Riza, the one who look after his back and point him to the right pathway is his queen. #ship~~~

Nope. They're not couples. *flips table*
Couples or not, they're now my otp~~♥
Roy always went out of control and burns whatever in his way when he realized someone hurt Riza. Yeah they're not couples but that should have implies "something".
Meng Yenggg how can you say he's damn hot!! [pun intended]

HAHAHHA for your information he was expecting to see Riza Hawkeye~

Seriously Meng Yeng how can you say he's not hot.

Major Armstrong is one of my favourite character too ehehehe
I remembered Joey drawing him, giving him tons of sparkles *bing bling*

The muscle head who cries whenever he's touched.

Same with Mustang, he is both a soldier and a State Alchemist.
Instead of being the "Hero of Ishvalan" like Mustang, he ran away from the war, knowing their job is wrong and unable to cope with murdering innocent citizens.

That's the reason his sister refer him as 'weak'.

Still, whenever he's there I surely be lmao hahahha

BRO!!!!!!!

His sister is totally opposite to him tho.
Instead of being a crybaby she's known for "The Ice Queen" who is in charge of the Northen side of Amestris.

AURA OF THE DEVIL muahahahaha

Saddest family in the whole story will be the Elrics.

I always thought the reason Ed's father are covered on the pin board is because Edward hates him and blames him for leaving him and Al behind. His dad don't even came back when their mother passed away. Such a jerk.

When they took this photo, Trisha, Ed and Al's mom said she want a photo where the Elrics are smiling before anything happen and it's too late.
And OF COURSE their dad, Van Hohenheim was crying.

Geez he ruined the whole picture.

Their father loves them, but he had difficulties in saying and expressing it since he's the one who abandon his wife and sons in order to find solutions for his immortality.

Yes, their dad is immortal.
Furthermore their dad's body itself is a philosopher's stone created by thousands and thousands of people from his hometown, where he can hear their scream of agony every now and then. He can even talk to them, How cool is that?

Nah there's just a twig in my eyes.

Edward sacrificed his leg to bring back Alphonse's soul and affix it on an armor.

Al, on the other hand, willingly sacrifice his soul to bring back Ed's right hand for him to fight and avoid him being killed by the Father.

After Edward defeated the Father, Hohenheim, knowing that Alphonse's soul and body are both on the other side, suggested Edward to use his life as an equivalent exchange for Ed to perform alchemy and bring back Alphonse.

At last, the youngest State Alchemist got back his little brother, exchanging his brother's body and soul with his ability of alchemy.

There's a scene where Roy asked Maes how to fight.
"It's sipmle. I don't want to die.The reasons are always simple, Roy."

Edward and Al just want their mother back. After failing human transmutation they just want to restore their original bodies.
Van Hohenhiem wanted a normal life, not an immortal body which could live long after his love ones are dead, with a normal family.
Ling and May who are both children of the emperor of Xing came to Amestris to find the secret of immortality, just to save their own clan.
Lan Fan just want to protect her young master, Ling.
Roy just wish for peace of his country.

The homunculus known as "Father" just want to be free and learn.

He let go of his seven sins, made a homunculus out of every one of it for the sake of becoming a "perfect being".

Gluttony, the one who kept on eating things (and people??! ) end up being eaten.
Wrath, which means "extreme anger" died in peace.
Pride ends up being a kind-hearted human he once despised.
Sloth died after a very very long fight.
Lust gets killed kneeling in front of a man. (btw did I mention she is sexy?)
Envy committed suicide because he is jealous of humans, whom he despised the most.
Greed, the avaricious  (my favourite homunculus) died giving up the things he truly wants: Friends who support him till the very end.

How ironic.

"Clapping hands to perform alchemy? He looks like he is praying."

"Sorry I can't keep my promise. I'm going first."

"Ed actually called me his father, although he did preface it with rotten.
Living through all this endless years, I always felt like I've been structed with a curse, but then I found you, and we had our sons, and I suddenly felt blessed, grateful for the life I had.
I've had a fulfilling life. And thanks to you, it has been enough. Thank you... Trisha.
But now, believe it or not, I actually want to keep on living.
 Guess I'm pretty hopeless, aren't I Trisha?"

Roy and Riza. Ehh I don't know male and female can be together in a room inside the hospital.

#ship Al with the Xing Princess (Yeeaah)

"Uh... maybe not all of it! 90.. maybe 80%? 75.. that’s not enough. But 85.. yeah, 85 is a good number!"

"A king exist for his people. Without subjects rulers cannot exist."

"The power of one man doesn’t amount to much. But, with whatever little strength I’m capable of… I’ll do everything humanly possible to protect the people I love, and in turn they’ll protect the ones they love. It seems like the least we tiny humans can do for each other."

"A lesson without pain is meaningless, for you cannot gain something without sacrificing something else in return. But once you have overcome it and made it your own, you will gain an irreplaceable fullmetal heart."
