2017 was going to end in a few weeks time.
2016 remained a shitty year with Brexit, IS, Trump (→ but it's a good topic to discuss tho) and bombings in Syria etc.

After so many years I can finally do the eat-bread-run-to-school thing hahahaha *ahem* not that I'll do it...*ahem..?

Went for a few trips in M'sia.
Went to Penang with A level classmates, went to Melaka (and I still didn't get the chance to go into the ship museum haiz), there's one day we went to Sekinchan, and tomorrow my family and I will go to Perak.
This includes Kampar (We'll be going to UTAR just for fun because I've never been there) Taiping, Ipoh and some other place.

By the way my sis's boyfriend is from Ipoh. Of course he want to see his precious girlfriend when we arrive.
You can imagine the situation when we go there.

Since JK Rowling "invite us back to the Wizarding World" (hahaha I've never left), I went back rereading Harry Potter (starting from Goblet of Fire) because two hours plus movie and original screenplay is too short for me.
Too short, compare to the novels.
Besides, I think I'd finished Fantastic Beasts-related info on Pottermore and Wikia...aish.

I'm currently reading this and 'The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto' by Mitch Albom (one of my favourite author) in the same period.
With some revisions to decrease my guilty of spending hours on tumblr + reading. ahem.
Which is why, I'm still on 200+ pages after so many days.

(By the way I just started 'The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto'. I think it'll become the best English book I've ever read this year...

Summary of my life for the past few weeks years.

Besides we finally knows baby Watson's name (Rosie Watson) and Sherlolly is canon~

As mentioned in the last post, I posted my fanfic about Newtina just for fun. And for procrastinating my assignment because I'm a typical university student.

Besides "omg people read it" and "Oh there are comments COMMENTS asdfghjkl", a person asked my permission to translate that fic into Mandarin and post it on his/her site. 

Okay...

Mandarin is actually my mother tongue so I can actually do it myself, but okay...

Because even though I can translate it myself (and I'm confident enough to say that my Mandarin is better than my English), I won't do it.

Writing fanfics about the Fantastic Beasts in Mandarin is so weird for me, especially the names of those magical creatures and spells. 

So...yeah, I said yes. He/she translated it and shared me the link.

I'm so happy that someone actually READ and LIKE the things I wrote? Like wow an actual, legit person? From another country!??!

Movie night (with tears)

The weather’s damn hot, can’t sleep, I’m not in mood to study, wi-fi is so slow my chrome keeps lagging, so here am I.

Hesitated for a while about which language should I type this post in.

Just wanna write random things that happened these few days.

Last Friday was the first time I posted my fanfiction on...website other than my own blog. 

Okay I've been writing fanfics now and then since secondary school. I've got two folders of foolscap papers written during school years.

Exams period were the best period to write fanfics. 

Gosh the time given for some certain paper is so long sitting through it was so exhausting unless I was writing something.

Sometimes I'll write in my notebook, especially the first few weeks I went to PLKN and most of the time while I'm studying A-levels.

Need some comfort from the fictional world to distract me from the reality.

Most of them are written in Mandarin because Mandarin is the language I'm most confident with. 

I've read a lot of fanfics, regarding which fandom I was in and which ships were I shipping. 

But I've never, ever posted it, except those embarrassing short fics I wrote during  Form 2 omg what was I thinking?! 

Last Friday.

Maybe I was drunk (with all the fluff I wrote myself hahaha), maybe I just got some random Gryffindor moment telling me "JUST DO IT", 

so yeah, I shamelessly posted it.

I'm one of those who prefers watching movies and dramas alone. (Watching movies in cinemas is an exception. )

 It feels good without people judging you while you're watching your favourite show. ( as I tend to rewatch the dramas/movies I love again and again)

There were times where I kept recommending the stories (books/dramas/movies etc.) I love to others, but then I realized I doesn't matter others loves it or not.
Sure it feels good having a friend close to you that loves the same story with you, but there's also a possibility that they don't really care when you mentioned about it.
Or they don't like it as much as you do.
It feels like an insult, from me to myself, of talking about something enthusiastically to the wrong person who just. don't. care.

But still I like it when people talk to me about something they're very interested in.
You can actually see their eyes sparkling with delight and all the feels~~~ 

( I've got a friend Hui En keep on fangirling about Final Fantasy XV tho hahahaha and I keep talking to her about Newt Scamander and other Harry Potter related things

Yes, I prefer to watch movies alone, especially those emotional ones *cough* The Theory of Everything *cough*

But Hui En said she wanted to watch The Danish Girl, so we had a movie night in my room after dinner.

From what I've imagined about my uni life, having a movie night and tearing up with a friend is not on the list.

First of all, I'm not against the LGBT community.
Maybe it's religion? Maybe it's social norms? Not 'natural'? My gave up my biology after SPM but I still understand there's something to do with your chromosomes.
I don't even know why are some (especially the elders) are so against queer people. Even my parents are against it.

but, why??
Shouldn't everyone has a choice to be with who they love? It doesn't affect your life why are you so against it?

There was a time where I was wondering about my sexuality. Fandoms and going to all girls school kinda caused this kind of doubts.
But then there's a huge difference between loving someone and being sexually attracted to someone so nah, I'm straight. I think.

Okay.
Transgender.

Saw a lot of them during vacation in Thailand, however I didn't personally know any transgender people, so, let's just focus on the movie.

Description (took it from IMDb):
A fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.

I have some mixed feelings about this story.

The story started when Gerda wanted her husband Einar to become her model, and then it was just fun and games and "hahahaha they're so adorable~"

ROFL hahahhahaa

But then Einar started dressing up as a woman, and Gerda knew that it was not a game to him anymore. 

It's kinda...painful? to watch? 

I understand why Einar insisted on being Lili, because it's the 'real' him/her (um whatever).

But he betrayed his wife while going through this process?? 

Wth she saw her husband kissing another guy!?! 

Yes, Lili was very courageous in being herself, but you can't denied that she betrayed Gerda. 

The painful truth is, no, she can't.
After this Lili did tried to change back to Einar, wearing male clothes and whatnot.

Lili knew. She knew that Gerda loved her husband, and she knew she's hurting Gerda by not staying by her side when she needed her.
But she just...can't change back.
Or you can say that Einar is never really there, it was just a facade for her to survive in the society.

Eventually Gerda accepted Lili and she'd always been by her husband side about transformation of Einar → Lili.

And the ending leave me like this;

Besides tears there're quite a number of beautiful scenery in the movie. (Gigi said she like this movie very much because of the European mid-1920 scenery)

不愧是长大了啊。

I can't clearly remember the first time I read the book. I started from Chamber of Secrets...I think? At least that's what I told myself. The book is not even mine.
And then I read the first book, then the next. And the next.

Harry Potter was a big hit during that time, but isn't really a 'thing' in the lives of people around me, especially those who're same age with me.
There were times where I bring one of HP novels, either Goblet or Fire, or Order of Phoenix, and my classmates will go around saying "whoa you are able to read a book this thick your English must be good~" (which turned out to be a false statement).
I remembered feeling proud of myself, remembered myself thinking it's always not enough for me however thick the book is.

Waiting for an owl to bring me my acceptance letter to Hogwarts,
Spending sleepless nights finished a book,
Imagining myself holding a wand, studying magic in Hogwarts, where I'm interested in every subject they offered,
Chilling beside the Great Lake with my friends,
Staying back and celebrating Christmas (tbh if I got to went there I'll only go home on summer holidays even though there're also other holidays such as Easter and Christmas that allows students to go home)
Studying in a thousand year old magical library....

How can I not fall in love with this story?

Everybody knows Harry Potter is a big hit, most of my classmates saw the movie, but only a few, very few, as I went to Chinese primary school, read the books.
But there's no one to share with, during that time.
My sis didn't read it until a few years later, and I haven't even met Joey so I can't force her to read it and fangirl with me.
I don't even know what a fangirl is during that time, even though I was one.

A few years later I went on tumblr (Joey's fault), discovered fandoms, fanarts, fanfics.
Doctor Who, Sherlock, Once Upon a Time... and of course,
Harry Potter.

Being one of the largest fandom (or is it the largest?), there're plenty to discover in there. However everyone has the right to have their individual opinions, thus some arguments might get heated.

There're times where I temporary forgotten about it, especially when I found a new favourite tv show, jump into a new fandom.
But those Harry Potter-related posts will pop up on my facebook wall or tumblr dashboard occasionally.

And there're also a period, once in a few months, where I decided to reread Harry Potter series despite having tons a book that I bought but haven't read it.

I cherish the moments when I read those familiar words, reread the whole passage / chapter of my favourite scene again and again and again, such as the chapter where Dumbledore visited Harry in hospital wing after Harry defeated Quirrell,
When Lupin barged into the white cottage announcing the birth of Teddy Lupin,
The battle of Hogwarts, where students prepared to defend their school and some of them aren’t even off age,
And did I mentioned Prof. Mcgonagall’s SASS~

After reading The Cursed Child, frankly I’m not really into Fantastic Beasts.
We had too little information about the movie. It’s a completely different story, and I’m not sure I’ll like it.

Thank gods I’m completely wrong about that hahahahahaha~

Fell in love with Newt Scamander from the start.
We have Jacob, a no-maj, tag along during the whole show.
Not to mention the Goldstein sisters who are both badass~

For those who was asking me on snapchat, yes, I watched this again
BECAUSE ONCE IS NEVER ENOUGH.

Went out with Joey and Khei Lai last Saturday.
Normal place, AEON Bukit Raja.
Since there's a Popular bookstore inside OF COURSE we'll go in and yup I saw this.

The book follows the movie tho, so don't expect to see any deleted scene inside (sobs).
There's a shirtless scene for Newt that shows his scars (for a person that worked around dragons before it isn't surprising that he got some scars...or is there any other stories behind it? *wink wink*) that got cut nosebleed,
and a scene where Goldstein sisters were singing the Illvermorny school song.
Urghhhh I need thoseeee

Okay back to the movie.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but for me "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is better than Harry Potter movies.
Don't get me wrong, I like HP movies.
I watched some of those before started reading the books when I'm just a kid, and it's the movies that encouraged me to read few hundred pages of English novel in the first time.
 (Back in those times I only read Mandarin novels. 红蜻蜓 Childhood Memories hahahaha)

It's nearly impossible to fit every details inside a 2 hours plus movie, thus the Harry Potter books are always better than movies. ALWAYS.
But with J.K.Rowling (our Queen *bow*) writing the screenplay...wow.
Just.
Wow.

I need to control myself from skipping around and ran into the cinema the first time I watched it with my uni friends.

Both of my two friends sitting beside me are just chilling as if they were watching another normal movie but I was hugging my bag so tightly ASDFGHJKL OMGHEDWIGSTHEME HEDWIGSTHEMEEEEE!!!!!

Hahahahaha it's good to have another friend who loves Harry Potter to watch with me.

After years of waiting for a new story of the wizarding world I've imagined the moment where I get to listen to Hedwig's Theme in cinema once again (Cause I've got nothing better to do hahahaha) but when the actual thing happened...
Dream came true.
Literally.

Newt Scamander is the sweetest cinnamon roll ever the way he talks to his creatures, where he casually said he annoys people (and I went awwww) and that scene where he begged Graves not to hurt the creatures in his case when MACUSA captured him (heartbreaking) and omg his goofy smile....
SUCH A SWEET HUFFLEPUFF (HUGS

Comparing to Harry Potter, who's "The Chosen One" and "The Boy Who Lived" even before he knew his special identity, Newt Scamander is...hmm quite normal?
He went through his school years as outcast, and he eventually got expelled from Hogwarts due to some kind of accident with beasts.
Kinda remind me of Hagrid tho.

With a war hero as brother (Things I wouldn't know I'll need it until I actually need it: details about Scamander's family please please please upload more about this in Pottermore),
maybe others will have high expectation on him? But he's just...him.

NEWT : People like you, don't they, Mr. Kowalski?

JACOB (startled) : Oh - well, I'm - I'm sure people like you too - huh?

NEWT (not very concerned) : No, not really. I annoy people.

A guy who loves magical creatures and hope to change to view of his fellows wizards towards these creatures.

Maybe that's why he's so fond of those creatures?
He can communicate more easily with them compared to people.

It's unsurprising to know that many are able to relate with Newt, because, like him, the shy and awkward Hufflepuff, while we're scared and nervous about people we create our comfort zone and rely on the warmth of fictions.
Just like how he rely on the warmth of his creatures.

The way he says "mummy's here" to the Occamys and he feeds a glowing-transparent-squid-thingy with a feeding bottle ASDFGHJKL

For those who're complaining about the differences of ability in verbal / non-verbal and apparate / disapparate between Harry Potter series and Fantastic Beasts....you all do know that characters in Fantastic Beasts are adults right?
And those in Harry Potter's are a gang of students where most of them are yet to graduate from Hogwarts?!
OF COURSE there's a difference in their abilities.

Main characters in this story,
Newton 'Newt' Scamander, the magizoologist that wins almost everyone's heart in the fandom,
Propentina 'Tina' Goldstein, an ex-auror in MACUSA,
Queenie Goldstein, Tina's sister who's a legilimens,
and Jacob Kowalski, a muggle who Newt accidentally bumped into inside the bank thus being exposed to the magical world.

I love all four of them.

Queenie seems a little 'Luna' at first, kinda weird but sweet.
But then she's an expert in legilimens and using her skill, she found out that her sis was in danger and she played a key role in rescuing her sis and Newt.
Her romance with Jacob seems a bit comedy in this, sweet and humorous. It's not my otp but I considered it a very good ship *smiles*

Too bad there's a law that prohibits marriage between wizards / witches and no-maj.
Hope they remove this stupid law soon.

Jacob.
Funny. Likable. Most of the time he's in awe after finding out there's another world with magic parallel to ours.
And THEY OBLIVIATE HIM.
*sobs*

Imagine that you finally found out there's a magical world, experiencing so much wonders, feed and pet those majestic beast, befriended with the wizardry kind and then they REMOVE ALL YOUR MEMORIES.

Sorry I had too much feels about that scene.

This ship had been canon before the movie was up. It's mentioned in the Fantastic Beasts textbook.

Now retired, he lives in Dorset with his wife Porpentina and their pet Kneazles: Hoppy, Milly and Mauler.

 This is just the first movie, thus their relationship / friendship (whatever you call it as long as it's a ship hahaha) is quite subtle....

Class trip to find Fantastic Beasts

睡不着所以开电脑过来了。

嗯都三点多了我今晚应该是不用睡了。 

三年前宣布开始制作，三年后的今天终于上映了。

能在第一天上映去电影院看，超幸福的啊~~ 

起初是考完 Mid-term 后开玩笑说要出外hea，提议看电影，而 Zulaikha 说要不星期四才去看好了，Fantastic Beasts 星期四才上映。

于是就这样决定了!?!? 

在班上的 Whatsapp group 问时班上同学的反应比想象中还热烈哈哈哈结果共二十个人去。

差不多全班人了。

不一样的时代、不一样的社会，不一样的政府、不一样的主角。

设定在HP的七十年前。

读Harry Potter时纯粹觉得Grindewald 的时代即是魔法社会即黑暗又晃荡的历史。

如今看了这电影后，之前觉得是“历史”的一切呈现在眼前。

好怀念。

那些熟悉的名字、每个人都挥着魔杖、熟悉的咒语、用词。

还有关于那世界的一切。

第一次，电影播放完后戏院里掌声响起。
当下觉得好奇幻。
不只我一个人，很多很多人都喜欢这故事。
